In the year 1440, on February 6, when Henry was prince, his father Juan II donated him the lordship of Segovia. The young prince took possession of the city on September 5, 1440. In 1466, Baron of Rosmithal, a nobleman of Central European origin, marveled at its beauty, stating: "We did not see in Spain a more beautiful Alcázar than this one, nor one that had so many riches of gold, silver, and jewels."
