Description
The cloister of the Cathedral of Segovia is an exceptional feature within the city's architectural ensemble. In early 1465, King Henry IV began the process of constructing a new cloister to replace the previous medieval one. Designed by the master builder Juan Guas, the cloister was built starting in 1472, during the reigns of Henry IV of Castile and Isabella I of Castile. What makes this cloister unique is that it was moved from its original location in the old Cathedral of Santa María to its present site. Its style is distinctly Flemish, and it marks one of Juan Guas's first works. During the tour, you will be guided by Mercedes Sanz de Andrés, a graduate in Art History specializing in Sacred Art, and holding a diploma in Musical Education. She is a sacred art guide at the Cathedral of Segovia and collaborates with the Master’s program 'Cathedrals: Art, Didactics, Communication, and Theology' at UNED. She is also part of the teaching staff at Caminos del Románico and serves as a lecturer at the Universidad de la Experiencia. In addition, she has taught at several universities and in the Hispanic Studies program at the University of Arizona. Get your tickets for Heritage Sundays: The Cloister of Segovia Cathedral!
