Description
For over five centuries, the Monastery of San Antonio el Real has remained hidden behind its walls, safeguarding a spiritual and artistic legacy of immeasurable value. Now, those silent walls open up to reveal a fascinating history. Originally designed as a hunting retreat for Prince Henry—who would become King Henry IV—the Monastery now represents one of the most iconic examples of Spanish Gothic-Mudejar architecture. During the daytime visit, you’ll explore the Monastery’s most significant spaces: from the former royal quarters (decorated with exquisite coffered ceilings and heraldic symbols recalling the legacy of Henry IV and his wife, Juana de Avís) to the rooms, cells, and corridors once inhabited by the Poor Clares, whose daily lives revolved around prayer and reflection. You’ll also see the refectory, the Renaissance cloister, the throne room, the chapterhouse, the sacristy, the church with its baroque altarpiece, and the lower choir—home to a breathtaking wooden sculpture crafted in a workshop in Brussels. Art, history, and spirituality come together in this extraordinary experience. Get your tickets for Behind the Walls of Silence in Segovia!
