Description
Ballet "Aleko" is based on The Gypsies (1827) by the great Russian writer Alexander Pushkin. The score features an orchestral arrangement of Tchaikovsky’s Piano Trio in A minor, while the stage backdrops were painted by Marc Chagall. After the Ballet Theatre relinquished the four backdrops in 1977, they have since been preserved and exhibited as artworks in the Aleko Hall of the Aomori Museum of Art. In November 2024, under a new production directed and choreographed by Naoya Homan, the Aomori Museum of Art version of Ballet "Aleko" was performed, breathing life back into these works as stage art for the first time in over 50 years. Now presented as an opening commemorative program at MoN Takanawa, this is a rare opportunity to witness the legendary collaboration reborn.
