The crypt of the Chapel of the Apostle Santiago in Segovia Cathedral was built in 1589 at the request of the executors of Francisco Gutiérrez de Cuéllar’s will—Commander of the Order of Santiago and member of the Treasury Council under Philip II. Architecturally, the crypt is part of the Cathedral's structural ensemble, accompanied by two adjoining spaces: the ossuary and the family pantheon. Its history offers insight into the founders’ devotions, final wishes, and the symbolic and architectural language of the 16th century. This journey through time—guided by the legacy of its founders—connects the chapel to this funerary space and to the enduring devotion to the Apostle Santiago.
