General Info
📅 Date: 14th January 2021
🕒 Time: 7pm–9pm (talk starts at 7:30pm), including a break and a Q&A session (approx. 15 mins each)
📌 Location: Millemium Point
👤 Age requirement: 18+ with valid ID
🎤 Speaker: Dr Alexandre Zagoskin - Much of the modern economy rests on the technologies produced by the last century’s First Quantum Revolution, such as nuclear power, solid-state electronics, lasers and superconductors. Now we are in the middle of the Second Quantum Revolution, which begins to deliver on its promise of even more exciting and important things, of which quantum computing is just the one most spoken about. These new technologies harness on a large scale those subtle and strange quantum laws, which until now only ruled microscopic particles. Dr. Alexandre Zagoskin will give you the first-hand report on how this is being done. He is a quantum physics expert, a co-founder of the world’s first company producing quantum computers, D-Wave Systems, and the author of several books, including the first textbook on quantum engineering and a popular science book about quantum mechanics.
Description
Do you know your protons from your electrons and your up quarks from your down quarks? Have you ever wondered how a quantum computer is made? Does time truly exist? String theory: is it really about strings? Discover all this and more in Fever's illuminating talk! Don't worry, you won't need a degree in Physics; our expert speaker will be bringing all the quirks and oddities of quantum physics to you in a way that’s digestible and fun. No question will go unanswered in the Q&A!
