Description
"Poiesis" comes from ancient Greek and means "to create" - to create something that did not exist before. That is exactly the aim of the Poiesis Quartet: to constantly expand the string quartet repertoire and provide a platform for works by up-and-coming composers. With 1st Prize at the prestigious Banff Competition in Canada in 2025 and the Cleveland Award, the young ensemble has impressively cemented its breakthrough on the world stage.
The programme "Between Two Worlds" combines contemporary creativity with milestones of modernity: Jeff Scott, horn player and 2024 Grammy winner, contributes a brand-new commissioned composition. Sky Macklay's fast-paced, humorous piece "Many Many Cadences" dazzles with no less than 15 cadences in the first 12 seconds. Opposite this are Sergej Prokofiev's Paris-inspired 1st String Quartet and Maurice Ravel's only String Quartet in F major, which once caused a scandal as a break with the rules and is now considered a masterpiece.
Look forward to a high-energy performance full of depth, liveliness and musical curiosity!
