MUSICAL WITH CLAUDIA RAIA ABOUT THE LIFE AND WORK OF THE GREATEST BRAZILIAN PAINTER TO BEGIN TOUR IN SEVEN CITIES

The 100% national show runs at Theatro Municipal do Rio de Janeiro on August 1 and 2.

With text and lyrics by Anna Toledo and José Possi Neto, who also directs and oversees artistic direction, the production stars Claudia Raia as the lead and producer, alongside Jarbas Homem de Mello, who plays Oswald de Andrade.

The story of one of the country's greatest artists takes the stage in seven Brazilian cities in the second half of the year with Tarsila, the Brazilian, a musical starring and produced by Claudia Raia. Inspired by the life and work of Tarsila do Amaral, the show celebrates the painter's journey, who helped build a new identity for Brazilian art and projected her creativity worldwide.

The production, with text and lyrics by Anna Toledo and José Possi Neto, who also directs and oversees artistic direction, and musical direction by Guilherme Terra, features Jarbas Homem de Mello as Oswald de Andrade. The show will run on August 1 and 2 at Theatro Municipal do Rio de Janeiro.

"Art and culture are fundamental because they carry our history, telling more about us and our collective identity," says Claudia Raia. "Tarsila do Amaral is the face of Brazil. In her work, she reveals our potential for creation and renewal, showing how important it is to look to the past—not just to remember it but to create something new."

Tickets are now on sale at fever up.com and the official box office of Theatro Municipal. "Tarsila, the Brazilian" is presented by the Ministry of Culture and Brasilprev, sponsored by B3 - Stock Exchange, with support from Besins and Rennova, official transport partner Gol, and in partnership with Giovanna Baby. The production is by Raia Produções.

"Tarsila do Amaral's journey continues to inspire admiration and new generations. For Brasilprev, supporting this show is a way to honor that legacy and bring her work and story closer to audiences of different ages and regions," says Camilo Buzzi, Commercial and Marketing Director of Brasilprev.

In a true journey through the early 1900s, the audience will encounter icons like Anita Malfatti (Keila Bueno), Mário de Andrade (Renato Caetano), and Menotti Del Picchia (Ivan Parente), who, along with Tarsila do Amaral and Oswald de Andrade, formed the quintet of modernists that changed the course of Brazilian art.

Joining them is a cast of 21 actor-singers: Liane Maya, Caru Truzzi, Matheus Paiva, Renato Bellini, Danilo Barbieri, Fernanda Salla, Dion Seabra, Marcos Lanza, Marilice Cosenza,
Alvinho de Pádua, Karine Bonifácio, Larissa Grajauskas, Estêvão Souz, Maysa Mundim, Fernanda Godoy, and Guilherme Pereira.

The creative team for Tarsila - the Brazilian also includes Tony Lucchesi and Guilherme Terra (Music), Alonso Barros (Choreography and Movement Direction), Renato Theobaldo (Set Design),
Wagner Freire (Lighting Design), Tocko Michelazzo (Sound Design), Fábio Namatame (Costumes), and Dicko Lorenzo (Makeup Design).

Synopsis
The story begins with Tarsila's arrival in São Paulo in 1922, coming from the Paris Art School, and her meeting with the modernists, which led to the formation of the famous Group of Five (Tarsila, Anita Malfatti, Oswald de Andrade, Mário de Andrade, and Menotti del Picchia) and the start of a passionate romance between her and Oswald. The action then moves through the exuberance and excesses of the modernists, life between São Paulo and Paris, Tarsila's busy and sought-after studio in Paris, frequented by the artistic elite of the time (Pablo Picasso, Igor Stravinsky, Eric Satie, Jean Cocteau, among others), the "rediscovery of Brazil," and the aesthetic revolutions that culminated in the Anthropophagic movement and the creation of the Abaporu, the pinnacle of artistic collaboration between Tarsila and Oswald.

The second part begins with the 1929 Crisis, when Tarsila loses her fortune and discovers Oswald's betrayal with Pagu, a young protégée of the couple. Separated from Oswald and stripped of her farms, Tarsila travels to Moscow and begins her "social" painting phase, portraying Brazilian workers. Tarsila is arrested by Getúlio Vargas's police, suspected of "revolutionary" activities simply for having gone to Russia. Supported and cared for by her friends, Tarsila then meets her last love, the journalist Luis Martins from Rio, 24 years her junior, with whom she would live for eighteen years.

After the death of her daughter and granddaughter, the separation from Luís, and the deaths of Mário, Anita, and Oswald, Tarsila reflects on her losses and finds solace in spirituality—specifically, in the spiritist doctrine of Chico Xavier. In an epiphany, Tarsila reveals her vision and renews her conviction in Art as a possibility for transcendence and connection with the people she loved and who shared the same dream, coinciding with the Retrospective of the Modern Art Week, one hundred years later, in a great celebration of Brazilian culture.
