Description
On September 15, Tuesday, at 7:00 PM, the Orquestra Petrobras Sinfônica performs at Theatro Municipal do Rio de Janeiro in a concert dedicated to contemporary Brazilian music and reflection on memory, identity, and the indigenous peoples of Brazil. Conducted by Felipe Prazeres, the program celebrates the world premiere of the work Réquiem Guaraní-Kaíowá, by Cyro Maurício Delvizio, with a libretto by Gabriel Neves Camargo. On stage, the Petrobras Sinfônica will be accompanied by singers Michele Menezes (soprano), Noeli Mello (mezzo-soprano), Guilherme Moreira (tenor), and David Monteiro (bass). In addition, the Coral Brasil Ensemble-UFRJ and the Coral Infantojuvenil da UFRJ will also be present, both under the direction of Maria José Chevitarese.
Conceived as a tribute to the Guaraní-Kaíowá and all native Brazilian peoples, the Requiem dialogues with the tradition of Western sacred music while incorporating cultural, poetic, and symbolic references related to the indigenous populations. The work proposes a space for listening and reflection, using the expressive power of the orchestra to address themes such as loss, resistance, ancestry, and human dignity.
More than a concert, the performance invites the audience to a deep and contemporary musical experience, in which concert music becomes an instrument of memory and dialogue with the Brazilian reality.
