About Orquestra Petrobras Sinfônica

Founded in 1975 by the late maestro Armando Prazeres, the Orquestra Petrobras Sinfônica has grown into one of Brazil’s most prestigious and innovative classical music ensembles. With a roster of over 60 accomplished musicians, the orchestra is celebrated for its commitment to making classical music accessible to a broad and diverse audience. This mission has helped it earn a distinguished reputation not only within Brazil but across Latin America.

Since 1987, the orchestra has thrived under the sustained sponsorship of Petrobras’s cultural program, Petrobras Cultural, which supports artistic initiatives across music, performing arts, audiovisual projects, and various creative fields. The artistic leadership of Isaac Karabtchevsky, one of Brazil’s most respected and internationally acclaimed conductors, has further solidified the orchestra’s artistic excellence and regional influence.
