Until the 16th century, there were two ways of understanding the sgraffito technique in Europe: one with its roots in the Islamic world, similar to geometric decoration, and the other that spread from Renaissance Italy, accompanied by figurative repertoires. The Torreón de Lozoya is, for now, the only known building that displays both styles on its walls with sufficient prominence, a truly unique fact in the history of architecture.
