Gabriel Fauré's Requiem in D minor op. 48, written in full maturity and premiered on January 16, 1888, at the Church of La Madeleine, is one of his best-known works. This mass for the dead is considered one of Fauré's masterpieces and one of the most beautiful requiems of the 19th century. The work, which is very personal in its writing, contains several movements that rank among the most moving in Western choral music. Beethoven's Symphony No. 7, on the other hand, is built on a progression where rhythm plays the leading role, more than melody, giving the whole work a dancing character and considerable vigour.
