Mozart’s effervescent Eine Kleine Nachtmusik opens the concert with its instantly recognisable charm, followed by Bach’s Violin Concerto in A minor — a work of yearning and melancholy, shot through with moments of technical brilliance that let the violinist soar.
The second half is devoted to Vivaldi, beginning with his fiery La Follia, based on one of Europe’s oldest musical themes, reimagined over centuries by countless composers. Vivaldi transforms this simple ground bass into a dazzling sequence of variations, brimming with invention and virtuosity.
