Description
We begin the third stage of the Camino de San Frutos in the town of Santo Domingo de Pirón, at the foot of the Sierra de Guadarrama. This stage unfolds across a landscape of meadows and pastures, with the majestic Sierra as the ever-present backdrop. Our route follows an ancient grazing trail, leaving behind the foothills of the Cordillera Central as we make our way to Tenzuela, where we can admire its beautiful porticoed church. From Tenzuela, we continue into the canyon of the Viejo River, crossing through ancient oak and chaparral forests. After crossing the river and ascending a gentle hill, we reach Carrascal de La Cuesta, home to a historic forge and the Church of San Martín. The final stop on this stage is Caballar, the village where San Frutos' siblings, San Valentín and Santa Engracia, once lived. Just before entering the town, we come to the Holy Fountain—the site of their martyrdom and a central element in the Rite of the Mojadas.
