Description
The guided tour "Funerary Art in the Cathedral of Segovia", available on Wednesdays in November at 17:00, is a tour to discover the funerary art that is visible, practically, in every corner of the temple. Some chapels keep imposing tombs, among which stands out that of Bishop Antonio Idiáquez Manrique in the chapel of San Antón, and all of them have on their pavement slabs that remind us that their founders, clergy or other personalities rest there and that the Cathedral was a burial place until the end of the 18th century. A curious detail if you are interested before the visit. Until the end of the 18th century, the entire floor of the naves was covered with burial slabs. The prohibition of burials in temples by Charles III caused the floor to be remodeled and the granite slabs to be moved to the large outer courtyard facing the western facade, although the skeletal remains were kept inside.
