Description
On July 16, 1768, the Cathedral of Segovia was consecrated after more than two centuries of construction. This momentous day was celebrated with great joy by the people of Segovia. Now, 257 years later, this historic event will be honored with the special visit, “Consecration of the Cathedral”, as part of the V Centenary commemorations. Taking place every Wednesday at 5:00 p.m. throughout July, this visit delves into the fascinating details, history, and meaning of the consecration. Preparations began months earlier in 1767 under the direction of the Cathedral Chapter and Bishop José Martínez Escalzo. The Cathedral was meticulously decorated with cornucopias—mirrors still visible throughout the temple today—and crosses placed across its naves. These rich details and their historical significance will be shared during the visit. Don’t miss this chance to celebrate history and marvel at the beauty of the Cathedral.
