Description
Join St Martin-in-the-Field's talented musicians for an evening of compositions, culminating in Pergolesi's melancholic crescendo.Β Rousseau called the opening of Stabat Mater (meaning Sorrowful Mother)Β "the most perfect and touching duet to come from the pen of
any composer". This final work by the Italian Baroque composer, written as he faced an untimely death at just twenty six, is considered his masterpiece and an essential touchstone of the sacred choral repertoire. This luminous music continues to enchant audiences to this day and coupled with a programme from Purcell and Handel, this looks to be a very special evening.
