Description
The Jazz CafΓ© will be inviting London's stand out young saxophonist Chelsea Carmichael and her band to pay tribute to one of the most important albums of all time: John Coltrane's Giant Steps. The record - released in 1960 - completely radicalised the principles of jazz to focus on the solo. Improvising over the 'Coltrane Changes' is a rite of passage for jazz musicians, and the album's title track is notoriously difficult due to its tempo and rapid chord changes. Chelsea and her band will take on the task of performing this album, and will also play a set of Chelsea's own material influenced by Coltrane's music and career.
