Description
On 16 June 1710, George Frideric Handel was appointed court kapellmeister in the service of the Hanoverian court on the recommendation of Agostino Steffani. Although Handel did not return to Hanover after his second London trip in the autumn of 1712, this circumstance—sometimes interpreted as an act of disobedience—was also due to the fact that Sophie of Hanover had already been designated as the successor to the British monarchy since 1701 and the House of Welf had been waiting for the moment to relocate to London ever since. Thus, Handel was ultimately only the vanguard.
An event organised by the City of Hanover in cooperation with the NDR Radiophilharmonie, the Agostino Steffani Forum e.V. (10th Steffani Festival Week Hanover), and the Knabenchor Hannover.
