Correspondence between Leibniz, Electress Sophie of Hanover and Sophie Charlotte, framed by vocal duets and scherzi by Agostino Steffani
Description
Leibniz's talent for intellectual and trusting friendships found ideal partners in Electress Sophie of Hanover and her daughter Sophie Charlotte, the Queen of Prussia, who lived in Berlin. He maintained an inspiring correspondence with both ladies. The witty humour, eloquence and subtle affection between the correspondents make the letters a literary event. The readings are framed by vocal duets and scherzi by Agostino Steffani. Steffani was famous throughout Europe for these chamber music works, and other composers such as Handel modelled themselves on his compositions.
This event is also the closing event of the Leibniz Festtage 2026, organised by the Leibniz Foundation.
