Description
Te Jazz Cafe celebrate the 60th anniversary of a canonical jazz album – Ornette Coleman’s The Shape of Jazz to Come in the company of Tony Kofi and his quartet. The album, released in 1959, is rightly identified as one of the albums that changed the face of Jazz. Playing on his plastic sax, the vibrant and sometimes frenetic compositions are a perfect example of Coleman's unique take on bebop. The album features the playing of his working quartet: Don Cherry (trumpet), Charlie Haden (Bass) and Billy Higgins (drums). To play this incredible album live, we are delighted to team up The Tony Kofi Quartet. Kofi is one of Britains most exciting young sax players and alongside his quartet has established a reputation for bringing to life the compositions of 20th Century jazz greats.
