Description
The viola from the Palatine quartet, looted by Napoleonic troops as they passed through the Royal Palace of Madrid, was recovered in London back in 1951 thanks to the work of Spanish cellist Juan Ruiz Casaux. He identified the piece on the international market as the original viola belonging to the royal ensemble. Thanks to his research and the efforts of the Spanish government, the instrument was reunited with the Royal Collections, thereby restoring the quartet as it exists today. The concert combines the sounds of the 1700 Stradivarius viola and cello alongside the magnificent Bosch organ, performing pieces by the masters of the Royal Chapel.
