Description
On October 18, Sunday, at 4:00 PM, the Petrobras Symphony Orchestra performs at Theatro Municipal do Rio de Janeiro in a concert that brings together two international talents and two landmark works of 20th- and 21st-century music. Conducted by Glass Marcano, the program celebrates the 65th anniversary of Wynton Marsalis and the 120th anniversary of Dmitri Shostakovich, two fundamental composers from distinct musical universes.

Born in Venezuela and a student of El Sistema, the young conductor Glass Marcano has been standing out on the international scene for her work leading major orchestras. Her journey combines energy, precision, and artistic sensitivity. In the first half of the concert, French trumpeter Éric Aubier, an internationally renowned soloist, performs the Trumpet Concerto by Wynton Marsalis, a work that explores the instrument's versatility and dialogues with different musical languages.

Then, the orchestra presents Symphony No. 10 by Dmitri Shostakovich, one of the most emblematic works of his catalog. Marked by extreme contrasts, the symphony reveals the expressive power of the Russian composer's orchestral writing, concluding the concert with a reaffirmation of its aesthetic breadth.
