On the International Day of Commemoration in Memory of the Victims of the Holocaust, Unibes Cultural, in partnership with the Italian Cultural Institute of São Paulo, is hosting a special screening of the documentary Anne Frank: Parallel Lives (2019), directed by Sabina Fedeli and Anna Migotto.
The film draws a dialogue between excerpts from Anne Frank’s diary and the testimonies of five women who survived the Holocaust—Arianna Szörenyi, Sarah Lichtsztejn-Montard, Helga Weiss, and the sisters Andra and Tatiana Bucci—who, like Anne, were children or adolescents when deported to Nazi concentration camps.
Narrated by Oscar-winning actress Helen Mirren, the documentary weaves together individual memory and collective history, exploring themes such as bearing witness, the transmission of memory, historical responsibility, the fight against denialism, and confronting antisemitism. It also follows a young woman from the present day as she visits significant locations in Anne Frank’s life, including Amsterdam and the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp, creating a bridge between past and present.
