The Ipiranga Museum is the headquarters of the Paulista Museum in the city of São Paulo, specialized in history and material culture, and is part of the University of São Paulo. The building in which the exhibitions are currently housed was built between 1885 and 1890, designed to be a monument to the Proclamation of Independence, which took place in 1822. In 1895, the building opened its doors to the public as a museum, and since then millions of people have visited it.
