Museu do Ipiranga

The Museu do Ipiranga is the headquarters of the Museu Paulista in the city of São Paulo, a museum specializing in history and material culture and part of the University of São Paulo. The building in which the exhibitions and spaces for educational and cultural activities are housed today was designed to be a monument commemorating the Proclamation of Independence, which took place in 1822. The building was constructed between 1885 and 1890. In 1895, the newly created State Museum was transferred to the monument.
