🌟 Heavy metal has always carried a strong and unmistakable identity, yet Castle Rat take it even further. They’re not just a classic-style heavy metal band, with all the implications that entails; they’re also a medieval fantasy band. This quintet draws just as much from Iron Maiden and Judas Priest as they do from Excalibur and Conan the Barbarian. One moment they’re wielding guitars, the next they’re brandishing swords. For Castle Rat, music is an inherently theatrical performance: every show is a kind of musical role-playing game in which the audience also plays its part. Dragons, dungeons, and riffs. The bond between the band and their devoted fanbase is so strong that their second album, The Bestiary, was funded via a Kickstarter campaign. After raising nearly $140,000 in just over half an hour, Castle Rat entered the studio with producer Randall Dunn, known for working with Sunn O))), Wolves in the Throne Room, and Björk.
