🌟 Coming across Echoes now, more than twenty years after its release, is like someone walking on the beach with a metal detector hoping to find a coin or ring—and instead accidentally uncovering a WWII explosive. The album that The Rapture released in 2003 demands to be handled with the same caution as a missile: the dance-punk energy stored inside the band’s debut LP, which made them far more than just standout students of Gang of Four in post-9/11 New York, could go off at any moment. As if fully aware that they’ve always dealt with potentially explosive musical material thanks to their blend of rock and electronic music, The Rapture carefully dosed their output throughout their career—only releasing three albums before vanishing as a band in 2014 without much explanation. Maybe because being the authors of generational anthems like “House of Jealous Lovers” or “How Deep Is Your Love?” was already a strong enough statement. Now they return to perform in Barcelona on November 23rd: Razzmatazz 2 will host their first concert in the city since 2012.
