Candlelight Original Sessions: Rich The Kid

Rich the Kid burst onto the scene with his hit single "New Freezer" featuring Kendrick Lamar, released on September 26, 2017. The track quickly gained momentum, earning Platinum certification from the RIAA by March 2018. Just days later, he dropped his debut studio album, The World Is Yours, featuring a powerhouse lineup of guests including Lil Wayne, Swae Lee, Quavo, Offset, Trippie Redd, Khalid, Future, Chris Brown, and Kendrick himself. Its second single, "Plug Walk", climbed to No. 13 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Keeping up the momentum, he released The World Is Yours 2 on March 22, 2019, debuting at No. 4 on the Billboard 200—his second top 10 album. That December, Rich the Kid made a bold career move by leaving Interscope Records and signing with Republic Records, still under the UMG umbrella. He followed up with his Republic debut, Boss Man, released on March 13, 2020.

Embracing independence, he later signed with Empire Distribution and dropped the collaborative mixtape Nobody Safe with YoungBoy Never Broke Again. Then in April 2021, Rich inked a multi-million dollar deal with Rostrum Records, continuing his streak of smart business moves. He reunited with Lil Wayne for the October 2021 mixtape Trust Fund Babies, and was featured on "Jungle", the debut single from the Bored Ape Yacht Club-backed duo Escape Plan, in March 2022.
