You too can experience life at the château, imagining yourself in the shoes of a member of Louis XIV's court as you visit one of France's most beautiful monuments, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Incredible as it may seem, the building was originally a modest brick and stone hunting lodge built for Louis XIII. His son, the Sun King, then transformed it into an immense monument to the French monarchy. But the Château de Versailles is not only famous for its magnificence, it's also where the Treaty of Versailles was signed to end the First World War.
