Written in Vienna a few years before the First Fleet set sail from Portsmouth, Mozart dedicated his fifteenth and nineteenth String Quartets to composer, Joseph Haydn, often considered the ‘inventor’ of the genre. While listening to them today in concert, from our multicultural and modern metropolis, it’s interesting to reflect how the early European settlers may too have played them for leisure.
