Temporary Exhibitions Fundación MAPFRE Recoletos Hall Madrid
June 5 through August 24, 2025:
  • José Guerrero. About the landscape
Always organized in series, the photography of José Guerrero (Granada, 1979) is presented as a continuous study on the representation and perception of landscape and architecture through the photographic image. From a significant use of light, color and atmosphere, his photographs transform iconic and historical places - such as La Mancha, Carrara, Sierra Nevada or the Thames - into dynamic scenarios that challenge the viewer's cultural background to arouse a poetic gaze full of meanings and connotations. This exhibition covers more than 20 years of his career to date.
  • Felipe Romero. Bravo
Bravo was the winning project of the second edition of the international KBr Photo Award, launched by Fundación MAPFRE in 2021. As in his other works, Colombian photographer Felipe Romero (Bogotá, Colombia, 1992) invites us to reflect on a space of tension and conflict: the border between Mexico and the United States and, specifically, a stretch of the Río Bravo, which forms part of the more than 1,000 kilometers of division between the two countries. His images of people, landscapes and architectures form a sober visual essay on the idea of waiting and the complexity of border identity.
  • Nicholas Nixon. The Brown Sisters (1975-2022)
Nicholas Nixon (Detroit, 1947) stands out as an essential figure in the history of contemporary photography. Recognized for his deep and empathetic gaze, Nixon combined his artistic career with teaching at the Massachusetts College of Art until 2017. Among his most emblematic projects is The Brown Sisters (1975-2022), a series begun in 1975 that annually portrays his wife, Beverly Brown (Bebe), and her three sisters. With a refined technique and a profoundly human gaze, Nixon turns the everyday into a visual narrative of great emotional force and confronts us with one of the most moving representations of the passage of time in the history of art. With the image of the year 2022 Nixon has concluded the series, so this will be the first time it can be seen in Spain in its final version.

During this season, the audio guide is available exclusively for the José Guerrero exhibition. About landscape and Nicholas Nixon. The Brown Sisters (1975-2022).
