Pre-Raphaelitism. Women's Journeys, 1850-1914
Pre-Raphaelitism. Women's Journeys, 1850-1914 revisits the movement that emerged in Victorian Britain in the mid-19th century from the perspective of the women artists who contributed to its development. The exhibition explores their different approaches to Pre-Raphaelitism, from their connections with figures like John Ruskin to the search for their own path in a society that limited their opportunities. Paintings and photographs, along with embroideries, enamels, and stained glass, showcase the diversity of languages and trajectories of artists such as Elizabeth Siddal, Julia Margaret Cameron, Evelyn De Morgan, May Morris, and Eleanor Fortescue-Brickdale.
The Other Side of the Avant-Garde
The Other Side of the Avant-Garde explores the relationship between avant-garde art and works created by psychiatric patients, which sparked artists' interest in their search for new paths for modern art. The exhibition takes as its starting point Expressions of Madness (1922) by psychiatrist and art historian Hans Prinzhorn, a pioneering publication that granted visibility and artistic recognition to these creations and challenged traditional boundaries of art. The exhibition examines the cultural and artistic context in which the book was developed, its influence on the avant-garde, and the decisive role of its ideas in the emergence of Art Brut.
Minor White
Minor White (Minneapolis, 1908–1976) was a fundamental figure in 20th-century American photography. Photographer, teacher, and co-founder of Aperture magazine, he developed a photographic language of his own in which images, organized in sequences, acquired a poetic and conceptual dimension. This exhibition, the first retrospective of Minor White in Europe, covers the main stages of his career through landscape, portrait, and street photography, with special attention to his famous photographic sequences. The exhibition is completed with contact sheets, books, and magazines that also reveal his role as an editor and his decisive contribution to contemporary photography.
