About Carlos Vives

Carlos Vives is a renowned Colombian singer, songwriter, and actor who has played a pivotal role in revitalizing traditional vallenato music by infusing it with contemporary rock and pop elements. Born and raised in Colombia, Vives began his career in entertainment with acting roles on television, debuting in the 1982 Colombian series "Tiempo Sin Huella." After earning a degree in publicity from Jorge Tadeo Lozano University, he transitioned from acting to music, forming the band La Provincia to promote vallenato on a broader Latin American stage.

His breakthrough came in 1994 with the hit single "La Gota Fría," which brought traditional Colombian rhythms to mainstream audiences. Over the years, Vives has released several acclaimed albums, including "El Amor de Mi Tierra" (1999), which received a Grammy nomination, and "Déjame Entrar" (2001), earning him his first Grammy for Best Traditional Tropical Latin Album. Following a brief hiatus due to contract disputes, he made a triumphant return with "Corazón Profundo" (2013), featuring chart-toppers like "Volví a Nacer" and "Como le Gusta a Tu Cuerpo." The album reestablished his presence in Latin music and was followed by "Más Corazón Profundo" (2014), showcasing collaborations with artists such as Marc Anthony and the Colombian group ChocQuibTown.

In 2017, Vives released his 15th studio album, "Vives," highlighted by the international hit "La Bicicleta," a collaboration with Shakira that reached number two on the Hot Latin Songs chart. Beyond his music, Carlos Vives has fostered new talent through his label Gaira, dedicated to promoting local Colombian artists. He has also contributed as a coach on Colombia’s version of The Voice, solidifying his legacy as a cultural ambassador and innovator in Latin music.
