Description
Expressionist dancer Anita Berber is a one-woman rebellion against a stiff patriarchy in Post-World War I Germany. Her life burns with a furious heat, drawing those around her into a vortex as intoxicating as rose petals soaked in ether. Anita Berber is Dead!, a new musical from Independent Shakespeare Co., follows Anita’s struggle to create an identity free from constraint and a new mode of expression that explodes artistic boundaries. Defiant and extreme, her work reaches its apotheosis in the stunning, strange, and ultimately doomed creation: “Dances of Lust, Horror and Ecstasy” which sees her banned from the concert halls of Germany and Austria.
