Georg Philipp Telemann (1681–1767): Musique de table, Part II
Description
In his “Musique de table”, Telemann unites the full range of European musical styles through skilful composition, imaginative breadth and sheer masterful inspiration. Here is the ultimate, dazzling banquet of the late Baroque goût in all its rich variety. Each “production” unites the common genres of 18th-century instrumental music. Overtures, suites, concertos, quartets, trios and solos for a wide variety of instrumental combinations offer an incredible panorama of musical forms and colours.
The subscribers to the first edition also included G.F. Handel, who quoted up to eighteen different motifs from the Tafelmusik (“Table Music”) in his works. Telemann felt flattered, especially as Handel reciprocated by supplying rare plants to his old friend.
Students of the Institute for Early Music at HMTMH perform the second “production” of Telemann's Tafelmusik, presenting a virtuosic and emotional feast.
