Description
Ensemble Jupiter’s new project pays tribute to women who have realised their dreams and goals, for better or sometimes for worse...
With her radiant mezzo voice and great stage presence, Lea Desandre, together with Ensemble Jupiter and lutenist Thomas Dunford, immerses herself in the world of sorceresses, goddesses and powerful women. Baroque heroines such as Circe, Armida, Alcina, Medea, Poppea and Agrippina become musical characters that tell of revenge, seduction, vulnerability and freedom.
Arias by Handel, Telemann, Lully and their contemporaries meet the transparent, yet sensually pulsating sound of Ensemble Jupiter with lute, string instruments, flutes, harpsichord, organ and percussion. A musical ritual is born in which ancient myths suddenly feel very modern, reflecting our own longing for transformation.
An event organised by the City of Hanover.
