"As a Palestinian, my mere existence is already political," Saint Levant said in an interview at the end of 2024, shortly after releasing his debut album, DEIRA. Although his conception of pop is as global as that of other non-Anglo-Saxon stars like Mahmood, Burna Boy, Stromae, or Amaarae, the core of his music cannot be understood without the geographical and cultural context in which Marwan Abdelhamid was born and raised.
Born to a French-Algerian mother and a Serbian-Palestinian father in Jerusalem during the Second Intifada, Saint Levant spent seven crucial years of his childhood in Gaza, which is why his songs are shaped by both sonic tradition and the suffering of the Palestinian people.
Thus, step by step—especially since the viral success of Very Few Friends, a single where he alternated between Arabic, English, and French—Abdelhamid has become a spokesperson for the Palestinian reality around the world.
