Born in 1898 in Leeuwarden, the Netherlands, Escher combined art, mathematics, philosophy, geometry and logic in a unique language that challenged visual perception and fascinated entire generations.
Famous for his surrealist creations, visual paradoxes and infinite geometries, Escher has become an icon not only for mathematicians and researchers, but also for the general public, won over by the visual and conceptual power of his work.
