🌟 When they released the frantic King of the Beach in 2010 — not their first record, but the one that truly put them on the musical map — Wavves embodied pure zeitgeist. Black Lips had paved the way like an older sibling for an entire generation of mischievous punk bands; Pitchfork was looking for any excuse to talk about No Age or Harlem; Vice had its own label to release youth-driven rock with just the right balance of fun and danger; Jay Reatard had ascended to myth status after his death. The ripple effect of all this even reached Spain, with Mujeres and The Parrots spreading the gospel of garage-party mayhem in Barcelona and Madrid respectively. In that context, Wavves spoke for themselves: Nathan Williams’ project was undoubtedly a child of its time. Fifteen years later, not only has the landscape around Wavves changed, but so has the band’s own spirit. Such is life: from punk post-adolescence to a power-pop maturity that takes shape in Spun, their new album and first release since 2021. Wavves will present it on February 27th in Madrid (Sala Copérnico).
