Wavves at Upload, Barcelona 2026

🌟 When they released the frenetic King of the Beach in 2010, not their first album, but the one that put them on the musical map, Wavves were pure zeitgeist. Black Lips had already paved the way for a whole generation of rowdy punk bands; Pitchfork was finding any excuse to write about No Age or Harlem; Vice had its own label for releasing youthful rock with just the right balance of fun and danger; and Jay Reatard had ascended to mythical status following his death. The shockwave from all of this even reached us here, with Mujeres and The Parrots spreading the garage rock gospel in Barcelona and Madrid, respectively. In that context, Wavves made perfect sense: Nathan Williams’ project was undoubtedly a product of its time.

Fifteen years later, not only has the scene around Wavves changed, but so has the band’s spirit. It's a fact of life: they’ve grown from post-adolescent punk into a more power-pop maturity, embodied on Spun, their new album and first release since 2021. Wavves will present it on February 26th in Barcelona (Upload).
