🌟 Although her music seems to float in a mysterious and fascinating no-place, Maria Somerville is a composer deeply influenced by a very specific geographic point: the lush region of Connemara, in the west of Ireland. The environment where she was born is inseparable from her compositions: her dream-folk is the direct musical equivalent of the mist that blurs the outline of the Connemara coastline. And, as happens in her songs, there’s always some surprise revealed when that fog lifts. This powerful connection to her surroundings coexists with the links that tie her second and latest album to date, Luster, to the great classics of dream-pop: Heaven or Las Vegas by Cocteau Twins, So Tonight That I Might See by Mazzy Star, Teen Dream by Beach House. Luster takes a canon that by now seemed unchangeable and elevates it. After performing at the last edition of Primavera Sound, Maria Somerville will present it in Barcelona this fall: she’ll be performing on October 30th at Club Sauvage.
