9e Musique@17h: HausMusique - Mythologies

Have you heard of the 9th, the legendary Art Deco space atop Montreal Eaton Centre? Now reopened to the public, it has been transformed into a splendid venue dedicated to music. On January 6th, we will fill this space with the sounds of a newly arrived Steinway Hamburg Model D. It’s the Rolls-Royce of pianos! At this magnificent instrument will be Ilya Poletaev, a professor at the renowned McGill School of Music. Ilya performs on the world’s great stages, including the famous Carnegie Hall in New York. He is the only Canadian to have won the Leipzig Bach Competition and has an unparalleled gift for musical expression on the piano. The music? Excellent question. This concert will take you on a journey through the myths of ancient Greece as told by some of history’s greatest composers. Two of them will no doubt be familiar to you – Beethoven and Debussy – but you will also discover the enthralling world of the little-known yet formidable Nikolaï Medtner. Hear the stories of Pan and Prometheus through music that is alternately sumptuous and epic. To add a touch of colour perfectly suited to the mythological theme, Montreal flutist Ariane Brisson, winner of the Opus Discovery of the Year Award, will also join Ilya for part of the programme. Join us for the very first HausMusique concert of 2026! 📅 When and what time?
