Owen gave us a really informative tour, starting with some photos of the area around Castle Park after the first bombing raid in 1940. We then were shown the tunnels below St Nicholas Market, which served as an air raid shelter during WW2. We were shown gas masks and bits of aircraft from that time. There are lots of interesting artefacts, maps, uniforms, ration cards which I would have liked longer to look at but Owen’s tour with it’s stories and photos really helped bring this period of history alive. I fully recommend this tour to anyone interested in the history of Bristol and to anyone who is interested in life in the Uk during the Second World War.
