Description
Two aristocrats and their servants are shipwrecked on an island inhabited by rebellious slaves from Athens. In this strange place, masters are forced to swap clothes and roles with their slaves, serving them until they "feel the pain" in order to learn a powerful lesson in justice and humanity. The role-play between masters and slaves quickly turns into a revealingly violent game of power, revenge and dangerous love. But what are the limits of such a game? While it's easy to understand what slavery means, what does the meaning of freedom reveal about us? In this adaptation, Les Belles Gueules faithfully respects Marivaux's text while adding a modern touch, using youthful, contemporary language to bring the audience closer to the emotions and issues of the characters. Don't miss this breathtaking play, directed by Anaëlle Blum. Buy your tickets for L'Île des Esclaves at the Théâtre Clavel in Paris!d
