Description
Go back in time and visit the Sainte-Chapelle and the Conciergerie, two of the most interesting medieval historical monuments located in the Palais de la Cité (the residence of the kings of France at the time). Proudly located on the Île de la Cité, the Sainte-Chapelle is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It was commissioned by King Louis IX, who wanted a pleasant place to house his collection of religious relics, including the Crown of Thorns of Christ. This Gothic chapel is famous for its 15 magnificent stained glass windows representing a total of 1113 scenes from the Old and New Testaments. The Conciergerie was abandoned by the kings of France at the end of the 14th century and was then transformed into a revolutionary court and prison. It was one of the principal places of detention during the French Revolution. Its most famous resident was of course Queen Marie-Antoinette. You can also visit a commemorative chapel that was erected during the restoration on the site of her cell. Buy your priority tickets for the Sainte Chapelle and the Conciergerie in Paris!
