Description
Travel back in time and visit Sainte-Chapelle and La Conciergerie, two of the most fascinating medieval historical monuments located in the Palais de la Cité (the residence of the Kings of France at the time). Proudly situated on the Île de la Cité, Sainte-Chapelle is a UNESCO World Heritage site. It was commissioned by King Louis IX, who desired a beautiful place to house his collection of religious relics, including the Crown of Thorns of Christ. This Gothic chapel is renowned for its 15 magnificent stained glass windows, which depict a total of 1,113 scenes from the Old and New Testaments. La Conciergerie was abandoned by the Kings of France at the end of the 14th century and was then transformed into a prison and revolutionary tribunal. It was one of the main detention centers during the French Revolution. Its most famous resident was, of course, Queen Marie-Antoinette. You can even visit her commemorative chapel, which was built on the site of her cell during the renovations! Buy your priority tickets for Sainte-Chapelle and La Conciergerie in Paris!
