Find out who the incarcerated prisoners were and enjoy an incredible view of the Old Port! François 1st used the Château d'If to protect the coast of Marseille from invasion. Protestants and Republicans, as well as anyone opposed to public authority, were imprisoned at the Château d'If from 1580 to 1871. The most famous prisoner was undoubtedly Edmond Dantès, the character from Dumas' novel The Count of Monte Cristo. Unlike him, your stay at the Château d'If will not be 14 years of unjust imprisonment. You'll spend a unique, fascinating and picturesque day.
