About Róisín Murphy

Róisín Murphy, born in Dublin in 1973 and raised in Manchester from the age of 12, is celebrated as one of the most innovative voices in contemporary electronic and avant-pop music. She first gained prominence as the charismatic frontwoman of Moloko, the electronic pop duo she formed with producer Mark Brydon. Moloko’s distinctive sound—a vibrant fusion of disco, jazz, and adventurous pop—yielded acclaimed hits such as "Sing It Back," "The Time Is Now," and "Fun for Me." After the duo’s 2002 album "Statues" marked their final collaboration, Murphy embarked on a bold solo career.

Her debut solo album, "Ruby Blue" (2005), produced with Matthew Herbert, pushed creative boundaries by incorporating unconventional sounds and everyday objects into its experimental electronic fabric. She followed this with the more accessible yet still cutting-edge "Overpowered" (2007), which featured collaborations with Bugz in the Attic and members of Groove Armada. Throughout the late 2000s and early 2010s, Murphy released numerous singles including "Demon Lover" (2009) and lent her talents to projects with artists like David Byrne and Fatboy Slim on "Here Lies Love."

Murphy’s 2015 album "Hairless Toys" drew deep inspiration from vibrant ballroom culture and earned Mercury Prize and Ireland’s Choice Music Prize nominations, signaling a mature and personal artistic phase. She continued this artistic evolution with 2016’s "Take Her Up to Monto," produced alongside Eddie Stevens, solidifying her reputation as a pioneering force in electronic and avant-garde pop music. Today, Róisín Murphy remains a dynamic and boundary-defying artist whose work continually redefines the possibilities of electronic music.
