Father John Misty is the stage persona of Josh Tillman, an acclaimed indie folk artist originally from Maryland. Known for his introspective lyrics and richly layered compositions, Tillman first gained recognition as the drummer for the acclaimed indie band Fleet Foxes before embarking on a solo career marked by profound songwriting and distinctive vocal delivery. Over the years, Father John Misty has become a defining figure in contemporary alternative music, seamlessly blending literary depth with musical sophistication.

His upcoming album, "Mahashmashana" (2024), set for release on November 22 through Sub Pop and Bella Union in the UK and Europe, exemplifies this artistic evolution. The record features eight tracks spanning roughly 50 minutes, including standout singles like "I Guess Time Makes Fools of Us All," "She Cleans Up," "Screamland," and "Josh Tillman and The Accidental Dose." Executive produced by Jonathan Wilson and co-produced by Tillman alongside Drew Erickson, the album’s sonic richness is further enhanced on the track "Screamland" by BJ Burton’s additional production and mixing, and guitar contributions from Alan Sparhawk.

The album title derives from the Sanskrit term for “great cremation ground,” reflecting Father John Misty’s ongoing exploration of themes such as mortality, transformation, and finality. Celebrated for his evocative storytelling and Grammy recognition, Father John Misty continues to captivate audiences worldwide, solidifying his legacy as a thoughtful and innovative force in indie folk music.
